The Alveston Manor Hotel, on Clopton Bridge, complements the Shakespearean surroundings of Stratford upon Avon. This historic hotel is located south of the River Avon in its own grounds, just a stroll from the centre, and is close to Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and the famous Royal Shakespeare Company.
The Tudor-fronted Alveston was once a monastery and, later, a private residence and guests can spot architectural and design features relating to different periods, such as leaded lights, Tudor panelling and Elizabethan staircase. Its vaulted cellar has access to a passage underground, thought to have once been used by Monks. Perhaps most significantly, the hotel’s Cedar Lawn was allegedly where A Midsummer Night’s Dream was first staged many years ago.
Because of the hotel’s heritage, its rooms retain many fascinating features. A newer wing to the original building houses many of the 113 bedrooms, which means that they are more contemporary. All bedrooms are of high quality and come with wireless internet. They include flat screen televisions and air cooling. Why not upgrade, and experience the traditional part of the hotel and stay in a room with beamed ceilings and a four poster or half tester bed?
Conference rooms are housed within both annexes, allowing guests to tailor their event according to the striking designs. There are 11 rooms available to hire.
The Manor Grill restaurant is located in the original period building and is perfect for a pre-theatre meal or afternoon tea. The Bar is also situated here.
