Normally during the first week of July, the waterways and banks of the River Avon come alive with boaters, live music, craft and charity stalls, market traders, various food and drink outlets and a full programme of events and activities. Based on and around Stratford’s Recreation Ground and Bandstand, overlooking the Avon and opposite the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, there’s a whole host of live music and street entertainment, culminating in an illuminated boat parade and a spectacular firework display on the Saturday night.
You can also find a family zone including interactive educational demonstrations, holistic therapies and entertainment.
Boaters from all over are also widely encouraged to make a trip down the River Avon to Stratford – an essential part of the summer’s cruising itinerary. Concessionary Avon Navigation Licences are usually available for the festival weekend and for longer cruises down the Avon to Tewkesbury, the Severn and the Evesham River Festival.
